JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — The news of the death of U.S. soldier Weston Lee , killed in Mosul, Iraq, touched close to home at Willian and Reed Academy in Johns Creek.

Lee was a friend and fraternity brother of Willian and Reed Academy teacher Carter McKenzie. To show their sympathy students compiled care packages to send to soldiers stations in Iraq who had been under the command of McKenzie.

“I wanted to help make something positive out of the devastating news. And I have another fraternity brother, 2nd Lt. Kristopher Leong, currently serving in Afghanistan. The school has really come together to collect items to send to his platoon,” said McKenzie.

“The support and willingness to give by the students, faculty, and parents has been absolutely incredible. I am beyond thankful and proud of the support from William & Reed Academy.”

A total of 560 pounds of goods were gathered and shipped by the students.
