City Council approves Hopewell Road subdivision

Rezoning gets approval after going back to drawing board



MILTON, Ga. — The Milton City Council voted 5-2 – with Mayor Joe Lockwood and Councilman Burt Hewitt opposed – to pass a revised plan for a subdivison along Bethany Road near the Vickery Creek subdivision at its meeting Monday. The approval rezones the subdivision site from AG-1 to R-4A.

The proposed subdivision, Woodliffe Greene, was brought before the City Council at its April 24 meeting, but builders Fuqua and Associates requested deferral to make alterations to the proposed plan.

Changes in the revised plan include reducing the subdivision to 16 lots from 17, added greenspace and the addition of sidewalks.

Also included were approval conditions:

All common areas shall be maintained by a mandatory homeowner’s association.

Minimum front yard of 35-feet and minimum back yard of 50-feet.

Lots adjacent to Hopewell Road must be in compliance with the rural viewshed.

A storm water management concept plan will need approval by the Public Works Department prior to submission of a land disturbance application.

Milton’s Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend denial of the subdivision on March 22. Community development staff also recommended denial, citing the land is zoned AEE (agriculture, equestrian and estate) within the city’s 2035 Comprehensive Land Use Plan that was approved in October 2016.
