Cumming Vietnam veterans award scholarships to high school graduates

FORSYTH COUNTY — Three Forsyth County high school graduates were awarded $1,500 college scholarships by the Cumming Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America in their second annual scholarship program June 6. The three students were selected from among applicants who excel in academics, in sports and also for their community involvement.

Trey Tanjuatco is a graduate of South Forsyth High School was presented his scholarship in memory of Army Sergeant Charlie Gazaway. Tanjuatco will study business at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Rigg Milner, a graduate of Fideles Christian School, was presented his scholarship to honor the memory of Marine Corps Corporal Donnie Little. Milner will study engineering at the University of North Georgia.

Matthew Hanley graduated from Forsyth Central High School. His scholarship was presented in memory of Lamar Hubbard, and Hanley will seek a degree in Communication/Journalism at Kennesaw State University.

Special recognition was paid to the Gazaway family who attended the meeting and who still reside in the Cumming area. Among the family members attending were the late Charlie Gazaway’s sisters Marsha Gazaway, Linda Gazaway Allen and Granddaughter Haley Gazaway.

“We are pleased and privileged to have to opportunity to award scholarships to deserving high school seniors and simultaneously honor the memory of those individuals who have fallen in service to our nation during the Vietnam War,” said Chapter President Gary Ely.
